Is It Time for New Tires?

Is It Time for New Tires?

Perhaps the most satisfying part of our job at Admiral Tire and Auto is ensuring that customers are driving safe vehicles as they commute to work and transport their families to school, rehearsals, or vacation. One of the best ways for everyone to keep their vehicle safe is to have tires with an optimal tread depth. Tires with a depth between 9/32” and 12/32” are considered in the optimal range. At 4/32” of tread depth, a tire’s ability to evacuate rain and snow is greatly diminished. Any tire with a tread depth below 2/32” is unsafe and should be replaced immediately. While those measurements may seem intimidating, there are some simple methods to checking your tires’ depth.  All tires come with tread wear indicators which are tiny bars spaced out between the grooves in the tire. The phenomenon known as “The Great Resignation” has impacted nearly every industry causing nationwide labor shortages.  And the automotive service sector is no exception. Not only should employers be concerned, but Forbes reports that labor woes combined with parts shortages may result in increased costs and wait times for customers.  The labor shortage in the automotive service industry does not appear to be a temporary issue. Balancing or Aligning? Which Does My Vehicle Need?

Balancing or Aligning? Which Does My Vehicle Need?

A customer recently asked, “Why do I need an alignment? Didn’t you guys balance the tires?” Both balancing tires and correcting an alignment are essential to car maintenance and a smooth ride.  A wheel balance corrects uneven distribution of weight which can lead to vibration, excessive tire wear, damage to the suspension, and other problems.    Tires may be out of balance due to lack of use or from striking curbs, potholes, or debris.
